A Conversation with Ivan Vyrypaev, Polish-Russian Dramatist

Ivan VyrypaevPolish-Russian playwright and screenwriter, is also a film director, actor, and pedagogue.  Among his theatrical works are Oxygen (2002), Iranian Conference (2017), Disquiet (2018), and The Only Tallest Trees on Earth (2021, 2022); among his directorial works are Euphoria (2006) and Oxygen (2009). In addition to earning acclaim from numerous  festivals in Russia, Vyrypaev holds awards from the Venice Film Festival and the Stuckemarkt International Contemporary Drama Festival. Vyrypaev is known for his uncompromising stance on non-collaboration with the Russian state formulated before the latest round of Russian aggression against Ukraine, which he denounced in the strongest of terms; his decision to donate all proceedings from the staging of his theatrical work in Russia to Ukraine has led to a comprehensive ban. Vyrypaev continues to create and speak his mind from Poland.
