CLS Info Session and Alumni Panel

Join the Russian Flagship Program to learn more about fully-funded intensive summer language study through the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. Jonathan Poser, CLS Program Officer, will provide information about the program and application process. Following the presentation, UNC CLS alumni will share their personal experiences in the program before our live Q&A session.
- Jonathan Poser is Program Officer for Russian and Persian Programs and holds a dual M.A./M.P.P. from the University of Michigan’s Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies and the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.
- Albert Cavallaro is a current doctoral student in History at the University of Michigan. Albert received a Master of Arts in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies from UNC Chapel Hill in 2019 and participated in the Critical Language Scholarship Program in 2018 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
- Christina Oh is a current UNC Chapel Hill undergraduate majoring in linguistics and Germanic and Slavic languages and literatures with a music minor and is enrolled in the Russian Flagship Program. Christina participated in the Critical Language Scholarship Program in 2021 virtually.
With the goal of broadening the base of Americans studying and mastering critical languages and to build relationships between the people of the United States and other countries, CLS provides fully-funded intensive language study during the summer to a diverse group of students from across the United States at every level of language learning. CLS is open to undergraduate (including graduating seniors) and graduate students.
